Twitter Hashtag Guide for Writers and Authors

Twitter Hashtag Guide for Writers and Authors

As a writer or author you are no doubt familiar with what Twitter is, but if you’re not familiar with the use of Twitter hashtags, then you’re reading the right post.

What’s a Twitter hashtag?
Hastags are words or phrases used in tweets, which have the ‘#’ symbol preceeding them. hashtags don’t have any spaces or punctuation in them and are used like ‘category links’ in Twitter. When clicked, they reveal a stream of everyone’s tweets that contain that hashtag.

For example; #scifi

How can you use a hashtag?
hashtags are included in tweets that are relevant to a specific topic. You can assign a hashtag such as our example ‘#scifi’ in your tweet, so all those interested in science fiction and who are tracking and following that hashtag stream can see it.

It’s a great way to get more exposure, build relationships and build your following.

I’ve put a list together of the top hastags for writers and authors and writers including those for genres. Do share other Twitter hashtags you’ve found useful in the comments below.
